Do you need help with emotions or relationships – and wonder whether counseling can fit with your Christian faith? You may be looking for a therapist who is highly trained in psychology and mental health, while also taking faith seriously. Perhaps you’ve prayed for things to improve, talked with a pastor or trusted friend, yet still sense the need for something more.
Christian counseling offers a space where professional clinical care and Christian faith can work together, without one replacing the other.
In brief: our counseling is grounded in evidence-based psychology, never imposes spiritual beliefs, and—when clients desire it—can thoughtfully integrate Christian faith in ways that support emotional and relational healing.
What is Christian Counseling?
Christian counseling is therapy provided by licensed mental health professionals whose clinical work is thoughtfully informed by the historic Christian faith. In our view, this integration involves three key commitments.
1. Clinical excellence comes first
Christian counselors are fully trained and licensed according to their state’s professional standards. They use well-established, research-supported approaches to therapy and do not rely on “watered-down” or purely spiritualized models of care.
At the same time, Christian counselors are attentive to theological, biblical, and spiritual dimensions of life, believing that all truth is God’s truth, wherever it is found. Psychological insight and Christian faith are not competitors, but can be understood as complementary sources of wisdom.
2. Emotional and spiritual growth are connected
Christian counselors focus on emotional health and close relationships, recognizing that these areas often shape (and are shaped by) a person’s spiritual life. Struggles with anxiety, depression, marriage, grief, or trauma frequently raise deeper questions about meaning, suffering, hope, and faith.
When clients desire it, counselors may thoughtfully incorporate elements of Christian spirituality such as prayer, Scripture, or reflection on faith, all as supports for therapeutic goals. These practices are never required and are always guided by the client’s preferences and needs.
3. Transparency without pressure
Every counselor brings a worldview into the room, whether acknowledged or not. Christian counselors are open about their own perspective while never imposing it on clients.
We enjoy working with individuals, couples, and families from a wide range of faith backgrounds or none at all. Our aim is to serve clients with respect, humility, and care, seeking to “do good to all people” (Galatians 6:10).
Common barriers to Christian Counseling
It’s normal to have questions or hesitations. Some common concerns include:
- “Is this just like talking to a pastor or friend?”
- “Will therapy focus only on prayer or Bible reading?”
- “Are Christian counselors less trained or less objective?”
- “Will I be told I’m not trusting God enough?”
We believe these concerns often come from understandable misunderstandings. Christian counseling does not reduce complex emotional or relational struggles to spiritual shortcuts. Your mental, emotional, relational, and spiritual life may influence one another, but they are not treated as the same thing.
Our goal is to help you feel more whole, grounded, and aligned with how God has designed you, at a pace and depth that fits your needs.
What you can expect from Christian Counseling
You can expect counseling that is:
- Clinically grounded in well-researched psychological approaches
- Personalized, based on your goals and challenges
- Respectful of your beliefs, without pressure or assumption
Counselors use evidence-based therapies because they are effective, and because they make sense within a Christian understanding of human nature, relationships, and growth.
For example:
- Anxiety or depression may be addressed using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Couples and marriage work may draw from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
- Family, parenting, and adolescent concerns are approached with developmentally informed, relational care
Spiritual topics are included only to the extent that clients want them included. Practices such as prayer, Scripture reading, or spiritual reflection may support therapy for some clients, while others prefer a more implicit approach.
Therapy in Partnership with the Church
Christian counseling is meant to complement, not replace, the life of the Church. We encourage involvement in local congregations, pastoral care, and mentoring relationships.
Our unique role as therapists is to bring focused expertise to the psychological, emotional, and relational aspects of life, believing that honoring our spiritual life ultimately invites us to value the whole person.
Christian Counseling Can Help
Christian counselors are committed to treatments supported by clinical research and shaped by a coherent Christian worldview. While each counselor brings unique training and experience, all seek to provide care that is clinically responsible, spiritually sensitive, and deeply human.
If you desire growth in your emotional or relational life, and you believe faith may be part of that process, our counselors are here to help.
